Interpreting the theme
• Briefly explain how you interpreted and explored the exam theme.
When i first discovered the theme i searched the internet for obscured food packaging, there wasn't much in terms of results but in later times i searched for other things such as interesting packaging designs and found interesting results such as obscure cigarette packaging etc. I also thought about gaps in the market what hasn't been done before whether i could do them and how well it would turn out.• How do your plans for the 'final piece' relate to the theme?
My plans for my final piece relate to the theme as it is food packaged in a drinks bottle, its not trying to hide them it was the idea of a unique packaging design that struck me as a winner for i haven't seen it be done before other than a children sweet and it would allow me to use all the things i needed to do for my packaging brief such as paper cutting
Recording observations
• What methods have you used to record observations using both primary and secondary sources.
AS it was such a fresh idea i didn't have much time to record anything but also i couldn't find any secondary sources that related to my product that would help with development and inspiration.
Idea development
• Briefly discuss your ideas - why did you not develop some of these further?
My first idea was to package a hotdog in some healthy looking packaging but then i found out how it would be to simple to do and would look rather dull as my initial idea for it was a wrap container, as i progressed i gained a few other ideas such as packaging tea bags but as i couldn't find a new an unique way to do this i scrapped the idea. also a fruit packaging that would jun the shape of a grenade as this was both complex and different, but to complex and random for my liking as i don't feel i would have done a good job creating this.• Describe the development of your final ideas - what did you change and why?
I changed what i was going to package the food in as the initial idea was to use a drink packaging i started off with a can but later realised the it would a lot harder to create a can than it would to make a bottle so i changed that idea to be more convenient, my idea originally was to make the bottle from paper which i later found out was too inconvenient and would be extremely time consuming and had a possibility of turning out worse than if i hadn't adapted to selotape casting• Choose one example to explain in depth.
Materials, Techniques and Processes
• Which materials, techniques have you used in your sketchbook and/or mounted sheets for this project?
for the project we started out with observational drawing to map out ideas but also we used overlaying, copying to create an interesting net design. we then again used observational drawing, we drew a selection of items then had to come up with at least one original idea of packaging for each item• Which techniques did you use to develop and realise your ideas? e.g. Photoshop, drawing, paper cuts? etc.
Papercuts, Photoshop, Drawing and selotape casting• Did you encounter any problems?
No• Did you have to adapt your ideas because of the constraints of the materials or techniques?
No
Influences
• Who? How? (Include images of at least 3 influences)
Angus Nicholls
Sophie Pepin
Lucy Hargrave
• Which artists/designers have you been most influenced by? Explain how?
I am influenced by all of the above for Angus liken e did a different and unique packaging design
sophie and lucy have very stylish and well thought out surface design ad paper cut designs.
• Refer to at least one particular image which has been the most important. Link it with your own work and comment on the context in which it was made.
The image above of Angus Nicholls work is the most important image i have studied as it has influenced me to make the label for my final piece i have used the same technique of connection with the tab and socket. the way his was made was to influence children into eating more fruit which inspired me to make the majority of my item healthy.
Final Piece
• What do you intend to make for your final piece?
I intend to make a selotape casting bottle that is intend to hold food and opens in a different way to the majority of bottles with a label to show the design• How resolved are your ideas? Explain narrative and meanings.
my ideas are well thought out as i have notice that people are more likely to eat a food product if it is well packaged and even more likely if the packaging interests them, this is why i make my design a bottle to package some healthy food• Explain how you intend to use materials and techniques, formal elements, showing influences of other artists, etc.
i will use selotape casting to create my bottle, then fontstruct to create a unique font, place this font on photoshop to design the label and use paper cutting to further the design of the label.
Conclusion
Comment on your overall thoughts about the project
• Did you find the exam theme easy/difficult?
I found the exam theme neither too easy nor to difficult, but as the end got closer i found it harder to come up with innovative ideas and good designs.• Did you enjoy working on your prep work?
I enjoyed working on my prep work as i had the choice of how i presented the theme it gave me the opportunity to what i like doing which is completely design and creating a 3D object.• Do you think you will be pleased with your final outcome when it is complete?
I think i will be pleased with my final outcome as i have put a lot of work into the work so far and took a lot of time refining my ideas to come up with this one, and i know i can pull through on the creation of the design for I'm good a making my ideas come to life.
