Drop Dead Clothing
Drop Dead is a clothing line based in the UK that was founded by Oli Sykes in 2005
Their stock warehouse is in Sheffield and they deliver both in and outside of the UK
The clothing started off as being designed by Oli along with his family and friends but with the growth of the company they have moved on to hire more designers and now have a team dedicated to do so along with this they sometimes hire freelance designers for special pieces.
Drop Dead are also linked with many bands as they work with them due to being friends through Oli who is also in a band which is how the clothing line came about.
Many people buy drop dead clothing for its in your face style designs and unique style.
The Logo above is the old logo for the brand below is the new
This is a completely different style to the old one as the colours used have greatly been changed with a pop art style colour palette and then into a completely black and white image both have an element of gothic style.
both designs have been created or refined digitally and are both well strutted designs with clear borders between colours.
neither of the designs seem to have real meaning to them but when i look at them they make me think 'How could someone create this' which some people may see as a bad point but i like it when a piece of work really makes me think which is why Drop Dead are so interesting to me as its not just their logos that have this effect its over half of their clothing line.
i do really like the logo designs of Drop Dead but i feel the first logo i chose to look at was the better out of the two and didn't think it should have been changed as i liked the cute but gory aspect of the logo now its just a bit plain and boring with an attempt of the same aspect but i don't feel it is as effective as the old design.
Personally i like some of the designs done by drop dead i have always liked the logos they come up with but the clothing on the other hand i tend to only be interested in about 10-30% of the new lines as i feel the standards that i have of drop dead haven't been met in the new ranges.
Avise La Fin
Avise La Fin is a clothing line based in the UK and US made by James Cassells the drummer of the British metal band Asking Alexandria who perform mostly in the US, He made his clothing line in May of 2012.
The logo he uses for this is an interpretation of his family crest which makes it a very personal company and on is blog, he states that all the designs are personal to him as he designs all of them and works with the manufacturer to hand make them.
Avise La Fin is a very small company as its run by a small collective group who are all close with Cassells.
Avise la Fin is a very well thought out clothing line as all the design work is based off of tattoos that the creator has as is this is a very small company and sells 2 t-shirts and 1 pair of shorts, i would have thought that by now it would be a large scale clothing line by now but it seems that james is focusing more on the band than this clothing line for the past year or so.
The logo is based on the creators family crest as he is a huge family man this shows really meaning to his company and the fact he implements family and his heritage into his tattoos and his designs are based on his tattoos this shows that the entire clothing line is hugely personal to Cassells.
i really like the logo of this company as it is clearly a family crest due to the intricate design and workings so i know that this clothing line is very personal to the founder this makes owning some of the clothes seem as if you know them better as a person just for owning their clothes i like the fact that he has even considered his family slogan into the clothing line as the name swell this makes it even more personal to the maker.
Personally i like the designs of this clothing line but i feel like its lacking in quantity but i would rather there be 2 really good looking and quality t-shirts than 20 bad designs, so i feel Cassells has made the best choice to not create bad clothes and just wait until he can think of a good design that people would like.
Saint Kidd
Saint Kidd is a clothing line created and run by Dougie Poynter of the pop band McFly
he created this clothing line in May of 2011, it takes influences from old school rockstar designs of the 17th century.
the designs are quite generic and are designed by a select group of people along with Poynter himself due to him being on tour a lot or in the studio as he is involved in one of the biggest pop/indie bands.
Saint kidd are pretty large scale considering it was only launched about 20 months ago, as normally clothing lines need to build up a steady fan base before they boom, but as he was advertising his clothing line via social networking on his official account he managed to secure a large audience by getting his fans to start buying and liking his clothing lines social media pages.
i don't particularly like the logo for this company as it looks aesthetically pleasing but i feel like it has no meaning it just looks a little to made up and thin, i personally like designs with meaning behind them and show family or have a unique aspect to them this is why i prefer Drop Dead and Avise La Fin's logos but this one is very generic and i don't have any emotional response to the image its just so basic which isn't always a bad thing it just looks like he has hired someone to create this and just said yes to the first idea, instead of pushing that emotion and hard work into the ideas but i don't know if this has happened it just seems like this.
personally i don't really like the designs by saint kidd but i can see the appeal to most of the buyers as its not completely of the norm but its not as in your face as drop dead meaning its more of an acceptable clothing style to be seen in rather than the obscure and rudeness of Drop Dead.
