1. Write an explanation of your brief - what did you have to do? How did you come up with the ideas for your personal project?
We were tasked with making a 3 page magazine including comparison between my work and others, also that included my very own designs and work. I decided to start with observational drawing shown in my sketch book in the drawings i used many different techniques of drawing and rendering. From there i moved onto analysing artists such as Matthew Midgley, Georgina Luck and Natsko Seki which would lead up to become my Illustration Spread
Then analysed and researched Andrea Bricco and Henrik Bonnevier which lead onto becoming my Photography analysis.
2. Write about the creative 'journey' of the project - how did the project and ideas evolve from start to finish through experimentation and research?
My initial ideas of my magazine were to incorporate music into my designs, which i followed through with my Advert, Front cover and Feature spread,i enjoyed designing all 3 of these as the development process was interesting, for my front cover i started by designing a border that game it depth so i added black to blank gradients around each side and corners, then adding my corners with any information and then my logo for the design. Then i thought it was time to add the centre image so first i found an image of a drum kit online, removed all colour and the majority of unwanted detail leaving small bits that could be used to make my design look better, then i went around the base of the entire kit with a paint brush to make the outline thicker and making the design look more unique.
With my feature spread i started by creating the overlay of text titles (Band names and album names, Whole page title) and Images of the album art from my iPod, i then set a base black background and added 2 slabs of textured metal to the design placed them at the sides of the design until i decided it looked right. After this i decided that the font i see for the band names and title didn't look unique enough to be on the feature spread so made my own font with paintbrushes on photoshop. to finish it off i added the final text overlay of the actual CD reviews.
My Advert was more of a personal thing, i did everything my self other than create the fonts used, i took a picture of my earphones and cut out the carpet in the background then i could see the wire was too thin to see so i had to paint over the top in photoshop i then proceeded to create the backdrop and text overlay, with gradients and different styles.

3. Who inspired your final outcomes? - You MUST talk about who has inspired your work - include images and links where possible.
My front cover is inspired by my musical interest and i had an idea about putting an instrument in the centre but with it just being outlined, then i found it was better with the detail of the image underneath
My feature spread was inspired by my musical interest the same and my front cover the only difference is the images used are edited screenshots from my iPod and the background inspiration came from the music genre itself for it was Metal style music so it made sense to have something linked with that as the backdrop.
My Other spreads are very similar but are colours and the text and image overlays are lay out in a different way with the same backdrop with different colours they are inspired by David Carson for the banner going across both pages i liked and added a few more to mix it up and make my own designs unique.
4. What do you think you have done well? What has worked? Are you happy with your final outcomes?
I think i have done my feature spread, front cover and back advertisement because i feel i had a lot more freedom on what i could use in them, such as being able to do music for my feature spread made me want to do it more and allowed me to link my feature spread to my advert and front cover, I chose the Headphones for my advert which allowed me to link that together with the drum kit used on my front cover and the musically based feature spread. I am Happy with my final outcome although there are a few major and minor adjustments i would make.
5. What do you think you could have improved in your final outcome? - you need to talk about something, nobody is perfect!
I would improve my final outcome by recreating the drum kit on the front cover better than i did in more detail instead of having an underlay with detail due to lack of time available, i can't think of any ways to improve my feature spread other than minor details such as font and text size, also my Advert i would much rather have had better phrases/ general text overlay but i already had to change my background to math the rest of the magazine. Also my 2 other spreads i would like to have removed all the red detail (squiggles) and find a new way to fill in the negative space.
6. Conclusion - overall how did you find the project? What techniques would you like to develop further in the future?
Overall i really liked my final outcome for i enjoyed creating the designs used and enjoyed being able to watch my work come together unlike the other projects i have done in the past, i would really like to develop my techniques on hand drawing as i feel the work i placed as my own in the magazine really wasn't up to standard with the rest of my work, but other than that i am proud of the work produced. Obviously there are improvements i feel i could have made, but due to a lack of time i could not complete these improvements.
